JAINISM
Some important points regarding Jainism:
It came into existence around 600 BC.
It is founded by Rishabhadeva. His emblem was Bull. He was
born in Ayodhya.
In total there were 24 tirthankaras. Tirthankara means great
teachers.
23rd tirthankara was Parshvanatha and 24th
was the Vardhamana Mahavir.
Vardhaman Mahavir was born in 540BC in Kundagram near
vaishali city in Bihar.
The father of mahavira was Siddharatha and his mother was
Trishala sister of Lichchavi Chief Chetaka. She was also known as Queen
Trishala, Trishala Devi, Priyakarini or Trishala mata.
He (Mahavir) was married to Yashoda and had a daughter named
Priyadarshini. Her husband (Jamali) was first disciple of Mahavir. Mahavira
belonged to the royal family. He became an ascetic at the age of 30. For the
next twelve , he practiced the intense meditation. After which he attained the jina or Kaivalya
outside the town of jimbhikgrama at the age of 42.
He was died at the age of 72 in 468BC in Pavapuri.
There are five Doctrines of Jainism:
- Do not commit violence
- Do not steal
- Do not acquire property
- Do not speak lie
- Observe Continence

Councils of Jainism:
- First council was held in 300BC at Pataliputra under Sthulbhadra.
- Second council was held in 5AD under Kshamasramana.
