The main function of legislature in a democratic system is to make rules.
Legislature at the union level consists of two houses:
Council of states ( some have two chamber legislative assembly and council).
House of the People.
#Indian Parliament
(1)    Council of states:  The Indian Parliament, Article 79 says:- it consists of the President and the Two Houses:
(1)    Council of States (Upper House)
(2)    House of People ( Lower House)
Strength of Council of States is 250.
12 members are nominated by president who belong to literature, science, art and social Service.
238 are the representative of states and the UTs elected accordance with the provision prescribed in the fourth schedule.
Article 84: Qualifications for Rajya Sabha Member:
1)    A citizen of India
2)    Not less than 30 years
The house of the People ( Lok Sabha )
Total Strength : 550
530 member elected by the peple from states
20 from UTs
2 members nominated  by President
Article 83:
Tenure of Lok Sabha is 5 year.
Can be extended for a period of not exceeding one year.
Article 84:
Qualification for Lok Sabha member:
Minimum age has to be 25 years.
