Hello Friends! Our today's topic will be related to history. We will learn about Rigvedic period in this article. From this topic many times questions asked in various exams. this makes it important article and do not leave the question after read this full article. So read the article thoroughly.
May be many of you already know about the duration of this period in which it expands. However, I will tell you the period. It was 1500BC to 1000BC.
Do you know about the Aryans ? Who were they? From where they came from ? where they first settled in India?
We will know the answers of all these questions in this article. The Aryans were semi-nomaidic pastoral people and they were basically lived somewhere in the Steppes, which is extended from Southern Russia to Central Asia.
On which place where they were first settled was known as the land of 7 rivers or also called Sapta Sindhawa.
Friends when we talk about rigvedic period. it also becomes important to know about their political organization, society, economy and religion existing at the period of their.
So I will bring to some useful information regarding these.
As the first term is "Political Organisation during Rigvedic Period".
Political organization during rigvedic period:
Tribal government form was prevalent during this period. In the tribal government for, military was strong. Tribes were known as jana and its king was known as Rajan. King was elected by an assembly which was known as Samti . there were also village level administration and the head of village were know as Gramini . The king was not solely running the administration. He was also assisted by Purohita . Prohita is very an important term, please keep in mind. Because it was basically asked in various exams. Not only he was assisted by prohita, he was also assisted by a Senani, Vrata, Gana, Grama and Sardh.
. These were the tribal groups perform the military functions. After that now I will tell you about their society.
As far as society concerned, mostly people were loyal to the tribe. They were called jana. This is because that time no territory were established yet. They were also 275 times mentioned in the Rigveda. You can found many more information about them by surfing over the internet. Women were also enjoyed the freedom during the Rigvedic period.
There were also many kinds of worshiping during this period. People worshiped different different divinities during rigvedic period. Some of them important divinities were: 1) Nature
2) Indra
Soma was considered as the God of plants. Basically people worshipped the the divinities for Praja (means children), Pashu ( means cattle), food, health and wealth. There is one more important thing is that time no temple or idol were worshiped.
Now moving to the economy. I will tell you about their revenue system. Friend during this time, there were no regular revenue system. The kingdom maintained by voluntary tribute which was called bali and booty won in battles. Their main occupation was pastoral. Agriculture was their second occupation. For the exchange purpose they usually use cow as their standard unit of exchange. During this period there were three kinds of well know gold coins namely Nishka, Satmana and Krishnal. They basically cultivate the barley as staple crop. Barley also known as yava.
